Pativrataa is used to consolidate gender norms that manifest themselves through other practices such as the everyday wearing of ornaments indicating married status and ritual practices at the annual Haritalika Teej festival. Previous studies have pointed out that, under the influence of consumer culture and globalization, the character of the Teej festival embodying Pativrataa is changing from a traditional form of celebration to an entertainment-oriented event.
